Do You Need a New House in 2022?

We here at Homes By Valor are big fans of goal setting and vision boards because we believe that the first step to accomplishing your goals is to understand what it will take to get there and what is currently holding you back. Since we’re in the home-making business, one of the questions that we always make sure to ask ourselves is: “Does the space I’m in make sense for the person I plan to be next year?”

We challenge you to ask yourself the same question so that you can decide if you should be planning for a move in 2022. After all, moving, like all things, takes effort, but if you do it right that hard work will repay you for years to come.

1. Do you have any big life changes coming up in 2022?

After the last couple of years we’ve had, our guess is that most of us are looking for some big, exciting life changes. What will that look like for you? Is tis the year you will have your first child? Your second? Your first grandchild? Or is it the year where you want to prioritize traveling but make sure that you have a beautiful home-base to come back to? Or, is this the year that you’re getting married and will need to create a space that fits two lives into one? No matter what next year looks like for you, we challenge you to consider if your current space puts you in the position to pursue those goals or if it’s one of the factors preventing you from getting started.

2. Are you happy in your current home?

Even more important than quantifiable goals is the pursuit of joy and making sure that you are building not only a successful life but a happy one. So, ask yourself this: What will bring joy into your life this next year? What do you personally need to create spaces of comfort and love around you? Does your current home fulfill you, and if it doesn’t, what changes could you make to embrace a space that inspires you? Is it time for some renovations, or is it time to choose a new space entirely? The choice is yours. Just be sure to choose something that invites success and motivation into your life.

3. How long have you been in your current home, and has it accomplished its original purpose?

A move is typically inspired by a life change, just like we listed in point number one, so occasionally, it can be important to make sure that your current home is still checking the boxes you need it to even when you don’t have a big move coming up. We want you to think back—when you bought this house, how long did you envision that you would stay there? Was it a forever home, or did you see it as a stepping stone? Part of embracing growth is to hold your current self-accountable to the dreams of your past self, so if you find yourself getting comfortable instead of continuing to grow and push forward, it may be time for a change after all. For example—one thing we hear a lot of first-time homebuyers plan when they’re purchasing is to buy this house and then move in 4-5 years but to keep this house as a rental. Unfortunately, the number of people we see actually follow through on this plan is relatively small, and most end up staying longer than they intended originally and then needing the money from their equity to afford their next home. This is an absolutely fine next step, but if your goal was to keep your first house as a rental, what’s stopping you? Get out that Excel document and start budgeting so you can make it happen!

4. Is your current home somewhere that will help you achieve your goals in the next year?

Goals are an incredibly powerful thing, but much like anything else, they take hard work and planning to achieve. Is one of your goals to eat healthier next year? If so, does your current kitchen have enough space to make cooking inspiring? Is it your goal to run a half marathon in 2022? If so, you’d better make sure that you live near somewhere that makes running convenient so that you eliminate that excuse from your repertoire. Your space can either be an excuse why you can’t accomplish a goal, or it can inspire you to succeed. Which do you choose?

We here at Homes By Valor hope that this gives you a lot to think about. Whether your home is perfect for your happy and joyful next year or it’s going to take a move to get you there, we hope that you manage to achieve all of the goals you decide to prioritize this year. If there’s anything we can help you do to get on track for your goals and be more successful, just send us a message through the website’s built in chat feature or text or call us at 678-242-9981. Happy New Year!
